Terms we use in JobFlo
Plain-English explanations of the trade and accounting terms you’ll see around the app.
A few terms come up a lot in JobFlo and in Australian trade business generally. Here’s what they mean, in plain English.
Quote vs invoice
A quote is what you send a client before the work starts — your estimate of what a job will cost, which they can accept or decline. An invoice is what you send after (or during) the work — a request for payment. In JobFlo, you can convert an accepted quote straight into an invoice rather than typing it all out again.
ABN
Australian Business Number — the 11-digit number that identifies your business to the ATO and other businesses. It appears on your quotes and invoices if you’ve added it to your business profile.
GST
Goods and Services Tax — the 10% tax added to most sales in Australia. If you’re registered for GST, JobFlo calculates and shows it on your documents automatically. If you’re not registered, you can turn this off in your business profile.
BAS
Business Activity Statement — the periodic report you lodge with the ATO covering GST (and sometimes PAYG and other obligations). JobFlo’s GST report is built to help you pull the numbers together, but it doesn’t lodge anything for you — check the figures with your accountant or BAS agent before you lodge.
Trial vs subscription
Every new JobFlo account starts on a 14-day free trial with full access. After that, you’ll need an active subscription (Starter, Pro or Business) to keep using the app. You can subscribe any time from the web app.
Connected account
When you turn on card payments, JobFlo sets you up with your own Stripe account (via Stripe Connect) so your clients’ card payments go straight to you — JobFlo never holds your money. This is your “connected account”.
Payment stage
A portion of an invoice due at a particular point — for example, a deposit up front and the balance on completion. JobFlo lets a client pay each stage separately rather than the whole invoice at once.
Document layout
The visual style your quotes and invoices are presented in — you can choose from a few different layouts to match how you want your business to look. This doesn’t change what information is on the document, just how it’s arranged.
Recurring invoice
An invoice JobFlo generates automatically on a repeating schedule — useful for maintenance contracts or ongoing arrangements, rather than creating the same invoice by hand every month.
